Shamanic Tradition
The shamanic medicine unites knowledge with rituals and practices based on a pure relationship between man and nature. The people from the Amazon rain forest have always maintained a very special connection to the environment, and particularly with the plants and the animals.
Shamanic healing practices have been maintained throughout all the Amazon jungle for thousands of years. Today the native medicine serves not only the local Peruvian people, but also foreigners who are looking for the possibility of natural healing through the medicinal plants.
The consanguinity of all life forms is the essential viewpoint of the traditional medicine approach in the Amazon jungle. According to this understanding, nature is considered as a large ‘Society of Life’, where both the simplest and the most sophisticated forms of life equally possess the same spiritual dignity, the point at which people, the animals and the plants all meet at one existential crossroad.
Traditional healers work with about a hundred remedies made from the different plants and trees within the Amazon rain forest. Many physical and psychological problems are being treated effectively by the application of a special Diet, followed during a healing retreat, which normally is 10 days in length, although sometimes longer, depending on the particular case.
The main shamanic healing plant implemented throughout the Amazon jungle is the sacred vine known as Ayahuasca, respected as a “master teacher plant”, which “opens the doors into the spirit world” or the trans-personal experience.
Contemporary shamanism – integral vision
Today there are healers and researchers from independent research groups involved in a long term applied investigation of Ayahuasca, focused on holistic approach therapy.
This approach highlights a certain undertaking that has demonstrated significant potential for furthering deep self-understanding, as well as potential for transforming painful or suppressed memories and negative emotions, thereby helping to awaken the inner child and master. The basis of this approach is the interbeing or oneness view of reality, finding the inherent wisdom of non-duality (represented in such ancient traditions as Buddhism, Advaita, Dzogchen, Mahamudra, Tantra etc.) accessible to every person.
The insights gained during the shamanic ceremonies encourage a participant to look deeply into the roots of his/her conflicts and confusion. What we value and emphasize most, is the practical continuity of what the participant has gained and learned, thus allowing its expression in one’s day-to-day life.
While being of the universal, indiscriminate and direct nature, this experience, while met respectfully and openly, serves all individuals equally, and is independent from any particular spiritual, religious, political or educational background of any one participant. It gives each person the potential, an impulse in their life and in their search for harmony.
