Amazon Healing Retreat with Medicine Plants

Next retreat: January 14 – 23, 2010. 10 days

Location: Manati, Iquitos

Traditional Amazon Healing Retreat is followed in order to discover and realize self-healing potential through guided treatments and ceremonies with Ayahuasca and other jungle medicine plants. Taking different medicine plant preparations and receiving special treatments, designated by a native healer shaman, give a possibility of powerful healing effects to facilitate one’s recovery and renewal of vital energies.

Amazon Healing Retreat with Medicine Plants

Description

Besides the sacred Ayahuasca vine, there are other master medicine plants, not always hallucinogenic, that are known within the Peruvian Amazon Shamanic tradition. In taking these teacher plants during a period of abstinence from particular foods, an individual embarks on a special retreat, also known as “La Dieta”.

The shortest Amazon Healing Retreat lasts for 8 days and can be ongoing up to one month or more, depending on the person’s needs and the depth of the problem. During the retreat, the participant takes one or more medicinal remedies, made from fresh jungle plants by a competent native curandero (healer-shaman). “La Dieta” requires that the participant abstain from the intake of certain foods that hinder the healing process – red meat and pork, eggs, all fats and oils, sugar, salt, spices and alcohol – and also requires abstinence from any sexual activity until the end of the treatment.

All the treatments are done under the guidance of an expert healer-shaman, namely Don Bechin, who has more than 20 years experience in the field of healing with traditional Amazon plant medicines.  He lives in a remote village, within 6 hours by boat from the jungle capital of Iquitos, where he offers his humble dwelling for this sensitive work.

Purpose of the Retreat

iquitos-sun-dawn_smallThe Diet is very effective for any proper, natural healing of diseases. The following aspects – maintaining a relaxed state physically, emotionally and spiritually, connecting with nature, taking light food along with the medicine plant “teas” – all serve to create the optimal conditions for returning a natural equilibrium to the body, mind and spirit. This Plant Medicine Retreat works on many levels of the human organism – the nervous, articular, circulatory and immune systems. It can effectively treat diseases such as arthritis, rheumatism, gastritis, kidney problems, hepatitis, and it can help to resolve other disorders that were treated unsuccessfully with conventional methods.

Besides it being used for an already manifest disease, “La Dieta” serves to strengthen one’s health in general, physically and spiritually. There are master teacher plants that bring clarity and determination, by opening up a connection to our innate essence. The cleansing and reinforcement of the whole body-mind is realized by choosing the appropriate medicine or master teacher plant. This is why the traditional Shamanic apprenticeship is based in this holistic medicine practice, since it can also help a practitioner discover subtle psycho-energetic quualities within oneself, and reinforce one’s will power and self-discipline.

In the event there are no Diets organized for the time that you are interested in experiencing a “treatment”, we can provide you with the necessary information for visiting the healer-shaman on your own. Under these circumstances you will need basic Spanish language skills.
